Max and Hattie
A three-act play
Adapted from a Jack W. Boone story by Dr. Richard Castellucis (Deceased)
The play features Max Golensky, a clothing salesman in New York City who was forced to retire when his wife, Hattie, developed cancer. Hattie died, but refused to go away. Her spirit appears in a spot at the edge of the stage when she feels the urge to give Max a hard time. She sings a little Yiddish ditty to announce her presence. Max was the only one who could see or hear her and she constantly corrects and criticizes him until near the end of the play. Her nagging and corrections made Max the original angry man. She disappeared when Max's new girlfriend comes into the picture. In addition to the ghost of Hattie, Max had two sons and their wives to deal with. Sid, a lawyer, was married to Desire' a dumb blond, and Nat, is married to a greedy bitch whose sole aim is to keep Max from squandering Hattie's insurance money. A lot of the action takes place in the bar of a good friend. Max is at odds with every character in the play until the final few scenes, when he mellows and the play ends on an upbeat note.
The play is available to theatrical groups.
