After they retire from active duty most old Generals become victims of their own history. They tend to get melodramatic and look back with a degree of nostalgia at their past glories. That helps them embellish their stories a little with each telling.

Not so with retired Major General Walter Sampson. He busied himself second guessing Civil War commanders on their own battlefield.

While he was analyzing each move of the battle, a boy scout troop came along and disrupted his train of thought.  One scout asked the General why the flag was important to battle. Walt's answer was a gem. An old adversary, Major General Harry Dixon, was sitting nearby listening. That led to an interesting confrontation.

This little book tells the story as if it were several hundred pages long. You will enjoy it and will appreciate its brevity. Many stories are too short to be novels, but still need to be told. Hopefully you will pass it along to your friends after you finish reading it.

This is the story of nine powerful and extremely wealthy oil men and their scheme to preserve their businesses and fortunes by electing a President of the United States. Their bazaar plan is to start a war with an oil producing country and capitalizing on the situation.  

Their extreme plan is unimaginable, but possible. It would have worked if one of the members had not died.  The heir of the deceased member refused to go along with the scheme. You will have to read it to get the full impact of what it all means. You think it can't happen here? Guess again.

Sam and Shep

Be careful. Reading this story could rip your heart to shreds.

This little story is about an old farmer, now a widower, finding a severely injured dog in his yard. He came within seconds of killing the poor creature to put it out of its misery.

When the pleading eyes of the animal locked on to his as he aimed his shotgun, he couldn't pull the trigger.  Instead, he called his friend, a retired Vet, to come look at the animal

Together they patched-up the dog and Sam named him Shep.  The dog became a part of Sam's life after that. An old man and his dog makes a good story. It is short, but very compelling.

Sam and Shep
